The cost-effective secondary site database solution was a success in which the migration to Tibero from Oracle had been seamless, which accelerated the enhancement of the quality of the University IT Service
– Professor Juliana Johari, Universiti Teknologi MARA –
TmaxTibero successfully deployed a real-time data synchronization project for the comprehensive information system at the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Disaster Recovery Site with Tibero’s exclusive integrated RDBMS solution.
UiTM, as the largest comprehensive university in Malaysia, having produced notable alumni such as Siti Aishah, the 11th Raja Permaisuri Agong (Queen) of Malaysia, Azalina Othman Said, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Richard Malanjum, the 9th Chief Judge, and Kamarudin Meranun, Co-founder and Executive Chairman of AirAsia.
The university, initially required a Standby DBMS to enhance the operational efficiency and stability of its comprehensive informative system, which previously was running on Oracle RAC.
Additionally, the establishment of an integrated database was deemed essential for optimizing IT costs and improving management efficiency.
TmaxTibero initially implemented Tibero to fulfill the customer’s requirements of heterogeneous DBMS environment for their comprehensive information system. Subsequently, UiTM requested to build an integrated database environment using single Tibero to achieve the following effects:
- Achieving a 70% reduction in costs compared to the existing DBMS
While maintaining current performance and productivity levels, TmaxTibero assisted in UiTM to reduce its overall costs by 70% in terms of Capex (licensing costs) and Opex (maintenance costs). - Implementing Tibero as the replacement environment for the operational database in the event of a DBMS downtime
Tibero allowed UiTM to economically utilize its existing system resources while providing enhanced performance, enabling the replacement of legacy systems. - Minimizing changes to current applications and environments during the migration with excellent compatibility
TmaxTibero, boasting high compatibility with Oracle DB, seamlessly integrated the database environment for the client without the need for modifications to their existing applications, all made possible through a rapid and secure integration process. - Expanding the data protection environment
To streamline mission-critical tasks, TmaxTibero offered enterprise-level database features such as Tibero Active Cluster (TAC), Tibero Standby Cluster (TSC), and Tibero Active Storage (TAS) without additional costs, ultimately allowing UiTM to establish a data protection environment at minimal expense.
This migration to Tibero improved the image of the university and further accelerated its digital transformation through the enhancement of the quality of the IT service provided.
According to the Assistant Vice Chancellor (Infostructure) of UiTM, Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Juliana Johari, “UiTM is highly satisfied with the completion of this project as the cost-effective secondary site database solution was a success in which the migration to Tibero from the university’s existing core database systems had been seamless with support from Tibero and partner as all the data are synced in real-time in the heterogeneous database environment.”
